I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on what I don’t have and can’t do.
So much so that I’ve repeatedly found myself at the end of the same circle, more unhappy and miserable each time.
I eventually became sick and tired of it.
I felt like I had no option but to make do with what I do have and can do.
Surprisingly, it was a blessing in disguise because it led me toward what I didn’t have and couldn’t do.
We become so caught up in wanting to have something more that we neglect what we do have this very moment, which is something we once yearned for. We get lost in pinpointing what we can’t do when we see another doing it simply because we haven’t tried or practiced it yet.
What you do have is a powerful tool that can be used to work toward what you’d like to have. What you can do allows you to try and practice toward what you’d like to do.
For example, I wanted to upgrade my skincare products and wardrobe. However, I didn’t have the budget for it and still don’t, yet. Because I was completely lost in wanting to upgrade my skincare products and entire wardrobe, I became unhappy and miserable.
I started to care less about getting ready for work, dinner dates with my husband, special occasions, and other events and gatherings. My face broke out, blackheads were more obvious, and my oily and uneven skin tone stood out. My hair was dry, frizzy, and had brittle ends. My outfits were a rotation between two different t-shirts and jeans.
One day, at work, while on my lunch break, I took a selfie of myself. I came across the selfie several days later while looking through my phone album for a screenshot. I zoomed in and out on the picture. Instantly, I thought, this is not me. I realized I only going farther away from what I wanted to have and do.
That was the moment I became sick and tired of living the way I was.
The next few days, I used the skincare products I do have to control the breakouts, blackheads, and oily and uneven skin tone. I used a conditioner and hair oil I have to improve my dry and frizzy hair and got a trim to cut the brittle ends off. I dug deep into my dresser drawers and closet to give myself more options for different outfits.
I kept this up for a month. I was no longer as unhappy and miserable. I started to feel better. My spirit was uplifted. I had more confidence.
This encouraged me to make self-help videos with a get ready with me and outfit of the day approach, which is out of the norm for me, as I typically share self-help quotes with a nature video.
I found people related more to my self-help videos because they could put a face to the words.
I began to feel more vibrant as I showered myself with more self-care and self-love.
I began to feel happier and more in tune with an inner peace.
I wanted to have a glowing face. My face is glowing by consistently using the skincare I do have.
I wanted to upgrade my wardrobe. My wardrobe went from two outfits to many by getting creative with the clothes, shoes, and accessories I do have.
I wanted to make self-help videos with a get ready with me and outfit of the day approach, but thought I can’t do it. I did so by using my experience from making nature videos and knowing and trusting what I can do.
What I don’t have and can’t do unfolded from what I do have and can do.
We can start here and now with what we do have and can do.
With Love,
Jasmine
I was obsessed with wanting skincare products I’ve seen people on social media use until I found many are endocrine disruptors that imbalance hormones, which can effect mental health, too. I decided to switch over to non-toxic skincare products. I love to use Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve face soaps and face serums. Though it’s taken some time for my skin to get used to, as natural skincare products are more gentle, but it has helped improve my acne, blackheads, and the look of dullness.
Okay, I’m not sure if this is just me, but I love to use a Spa Headband & Wristbands when I brush my teeth and wash my face in the mornings/evenings because I truly hate when water runs down my wrists and arms.
